Primary Purpose Act as a strategic safety business advisor and consultant. Analyze safety trends, identify safety gaps, develop action plans to support company safety initiatives, work with clients to develop safety plans, and mitigate existing and potential hazards to prevent injuries. Provide health and safety support to internal and external stakeholders/clients. Participate in the incident review investigations. Review regulations, company procedures and training, and industry trends to develop effective corrective actions Anticipate, recognize, evaluate and recommend controls for environmental and physical hazards that can affect the safety, health and well-being of employees, contractors and members of the public. Acts as primary client contact for safety.
Duties and Responsibilities: - Independently review and analyze industrial accident and motor vehicle accident reports to assure that contributing factors (root causes) and corrective actions were identified and prescribed as required by the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) and Cal-OSHA. As part of a team with organizational representatives, investigate all industrial injuries and motor vehicle accidents. Provide counsel and training to region and headquarters personnel for improving incident investigations, identifying contributing factors and planning corrective actions. Review and provide input on proposed regulations as requested. Participate and provide safety and occupational health perspective during major projects. Participate in the investigation of employee and contractor incidents and other investigations as requested.

Identify potential and existing safety hazards and unsafe work practices; and recommend corrections. Perform annual Environmental and Safety Compliance Management Program (ESCMP) inspections of assigned company facilities for compliance with Cal/OSHA and CPUC/DOT regulations, and company procedures. Has a physical presence in the field, the districts and with assigned client groups.
- Promote safety awareness, safe behaviors and provide safety training on various safety topics including compliance. Assess and evaluate personal protective equipment and make recommendations. Provide continuing safety education and training to end users. Recommend work methods and solutions for specific situations by promoting safety and health awareness, safe behavior, and compliance system-wide.
- Proactively provide counsel, guide and inform operating and corporate departments of safety issues relative to California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA), California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), Department of Transportation (DOT) and other safety regulations. Consult with region client group(s) to set safety goals and develop robust safety plans.
- Provide support and counsel to field operations prior to and during CPUC safety inspections. Accompany CPUC safety inspectors. Participate, support and respond to safety audits. Independently investigate, review and analyze company activities for CPUC/DOT reportability, and when required, reporting to the CPUC/DOT.
- Respond to after- hours safety concerns, incidents and other safety related matters. Required to respond to emergency operations and critical indents. Required to participate be on-call safety rotation.
