The University of North Carolina System Office invites applications for the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Director at the North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis, NC. This role serves as the primary onsite resource for EHS issues and acts as the liaison between local UNC research groups and the EHS offices at their respective main campuses.
Responsibilities include: • Training and communication regarding safety principles, protocols, and policies • Coordination of waste handling protocols • Development and implementation of emergency protocols • Oversight of radioactive materials handling • Laboratory safety inspection and documentation • Development and implementation of common NCRC Campus EHS policies and procedures • Incident Response and Investigation
The North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis, NC, is a 350-acre research center located just north of Charlotte, NC. Minimum Education and Experience requirements:
BS/BA degree in a science or engineering field, such as Occupational Health, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field. Master’s degree preferred. 10+ years of experience in EHS positions with progressive responsibility, or equivalent combination of training & education. Certified Industrial Hygienist preferred.
• Knowledge of applicable OSHA, EPA, NCDENR, and NFPA regulations • Experience conducting and overseeing laboratory inspections, including biosafety level 2 & 3 labs, for compliance with applicable policies and guidelines (e.g., UNC policies, CDS/NIH guidelines) and other consensus standards in conjunction with the CLIP inspections • Capability to verify adequacy of laboratory hoods face velocities
