We are seeking an Occupational/Industrial Hygiene Specialist to support our Manufacturing East operations. This role will be located in Sarnia, ON.
Develop and administer comprehensive and effective occupational hygiene procedures, programs;
Provide clarification on regulatory and company procedures and policy requirements;
Develop and deliver communications to educate/guide internal stakeholders on the application of Occupational Hygiene Programs;
Work closely with all members of leadership, employees and contractors as well as build strong positive relationships while representing NOVA at various committees and associations as required;
Conduct complex investigations and on-site analysis to recognize, eliminate, and control occupational health hazards and diseases;
Collaborate to develop and implement effective corrective and preventive actions in response to assessments, audits, incidents, and emerging issues;
Conduct investigations for the prevention of occupational disease with specific reference to chemical, physical, and biological hazards. This would include developing monitoring strategy, conducting monitoring, reviewing laboratory analysis, writing reports which include findings and recommendations for control of the identified hazards, as well as trending (statistical analysis) data. (I.e. Ontario Designated Substance Assessment, Workplace Exposure Assessments);
Promotes industrial practices that are consistent with the goals and principles of industrial hygiene, requiring a comprehensive knowledge of a wide variety of chemicals and other hazards, and work practices affecting employee health. (Ex. New product requests, Job safety Analysis, Construction Work Packages, Facility Change Management, WHMIS/GHS, etc.);
Serve as the back-up Radiation Safety Officer;
Support outage/turnaround/emergency Hygiene requests;
Management of Occupational Hygiene Equipment including calibration (in-house/manufacturer), document storage/filing;
This position may require up to 60% field work, with more during Turnaround/Outages/Emergencies.
Qualifications and Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Natural or Applied Sciences or equivalent with 5 - 7 years related practical experience or 2-year technical school diploma or equivalent with typically 8+ years of related practical experience is required;
Registered as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Occupational Hygienist (ROH), or Registered Occupational Hygiene Technologist (ROHT) is considered an asset;
Preference will be given to individuals with significant experience in an industrial setting;
Working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations, and Codes;
Excellent communication and facilitation skills with the ability to provide instructions in safety and emergency response;
Passion for Responsible Care performance excellence and alignment with NOVA’s values;
Demonstrated effective relationship skills and a strong team player;
Able to work independently and possesses strong organizational and time management skills;
Proven computer skills with excellent knowledge of the Microsoft Suite of products would be beneficial.
