Bachelor's degree in a science related field. Six years of professional experience in a related field. Certifications in the areas of environmental health and safety, risk management, occupational safety, campus safety and fire safety are preferred. Must complete applicable safety certification(s) within six months of employment. Supervisory experience preferred. Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience.
Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:
Performs highly complex managerial work providing direction and guidance in the overall implementation of environmental health and safety, fire safety and prevention, and occupational safety programs for Sam Houston State University.
Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):
Responsible for administrative oversight of the design, implementation, and coordination of the environmental health and safety, fire safety and prevention, and occupational safety programs for the University. Assures compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations; The Texas State University System Rules and Regulations; and university policies and procedures. Identifies and evaluates health and safety risks on campus and recommends methods to eliminate or abate risks to the Executive Director or Associate Vice President. Demonstrates commitment to health and safety issues and meeting the compliance responsibilities of the campus. Provides consultation on safety code requirements for university buildings, properties, new construction and renovations. Develops and implements techniques for evaluating program activities. Develops, implements, and updates policies and procedures. Identifies areas of needed change and makes recommendations to improve operations or abate risks to the Executive Director or Associate Vice President. Develops and reviews budget expenditures. Oversees the work of others. Oversees the preparation of management and productivity reports and studies. Manages programs focusing on continuous process improvement. Participates in strategic planning, developing goals and objectives. Oversees and approves schedules, priorities, and standards for achieving goals. Performs other related duties as assigned.
