Person in this position will conduct industrial hygiene services for clients requiring application of engineering principles and technology to analyze and control conditions contributing to occupational hazards and diseases. Provide overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the field industrial hygiene unit. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include assisting in interviewing, hiring, and training industrial hygiene employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving issues or concerns by working closely with this position’s supervisor, Director of Industrial Hygiene & Safety, and other senior management.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Conducting plant or area surveys to determine exposures to materials or conditions such as temperatures, noise, dusts, fumes, vapors, mists, gases, solvents and radiation, which are known or suspected of being real or potential health hazards; conducting ventilation surveys
Recommending control measures for exposure to hazardous materials or conditions and assist clients in implementing
Participating in the presentation of safety and health training
Preparing professional survey reports upon services provided
Establishing and developing client relationships and develop additional business as a Client Lead
Supervising the conduct of industrial hygiene services by field personnel
Assist in the scheduling of the conduct of client services
Provide and coordinate technical guidance to field staff on client services
Supervise the maintenance of the inventory of field supplies, lab media and equipment
Assist in the preparation of job proposals
Assist in the preparation of project invoices
Assist in monitoring costs to ensure compliance with project contracts
Coordinate and assist in conducting safety and health training for internal team members
Candidates must have:
Good problem-solving skills as well as technical and analytical skills
Computer proficiency in Windows-based office programs such as: Microsoft Excel and Word applications
Good oral and written communication skills
Good organizational and time management skills
Ability to work independently and in teams as team leader or member
Supervisory and management skills
Marketing, sales and business development skills
Job requires travel with a combination of day trips and overnight stays; however, most travel usually does not involve extensive/ long-term stays. On occasion, weekend work is needed.
M.S. or B.S. degree in industrial hygiene, or equivalent degree in related sciences (e.g., environmental health, biology, chemistry, life sciences, etc.) and a willingness to learn and apply industrial hygiene and safety principles at client facilities required. C.I.H. eligible or preferred. Previous consulting and/or industrial experience are a plus. One to two years supervisory and management experience is preferred.
