Director, Global Head of Responsible Care Catalyst
The Director, Global Head of Responsible Care (RC) is responsible for the definition and deployment of Catalyst's (CC's) Responsible Care culture globally in order to support BASF's "Zero Incident Mindset" and "Zero Loss of Containment Mindset". The Director, Global Head works closely with all Global Business Unit (GBU) Leaders to implement the processes CC uses to achieve compliance with regulatory and BASF requirements, to operate safe and environmentally sound facilities and to further develop the division's strategic safety KPI's. The Director, Global Head of Responsible Care drives the implementation and ensures legal compliance with the all elements of RC: Occupational Safety, Process Safety, Environmental Protection, Transportation Safety, Emergency Response, Security, Remediation, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Product Safety, Trade Control, Dangerous Good Classification, Product Stewardship, Responsible Care Management System and Permit Compliance, The Director, Global Head of RC will own the safety related KPIs for the division including working with the 6 GBU leaders to develop appropriate targets and tracking the division's progress.
The role will lead coordination across CC with business unit and site resources as well as various functional platforms to make Safety & Responsible Care and Site Security the top priority, by shaping a culture focused on reducing exposure, increasing transparency, development and adherence to global best in class security standards, and eliminating License to Operate risk. The role serves as a member of the CCT Leadership TeamT and is a key leader impacting the license to operate of CC.
The Director, Global Head of RC is accountable for the development of the OD Level RC Strategy. This includes global strategy for the Responsible Care Management Systems and audits. The RC group will provide support in preparation for RCMS certification including maintaining common documents across the division, sharing best practices in audit preparation and addressing audit findings.
The Director, Global Head of RC will lead R C globally including EHS and Global security. Inclusive to the team are experts who will make recommendations for CC SHE Standards, Product regulation strategy, support the technology strategists in the development of Global Process Safety Concepts, drive with site safety and environmental performance/compliance and work with regional and local BASF safety teams to create a common approach for CC sites to meet BASF standards. The Director, Global Head of RC has decision rights related to the CC RC Standards including the prioritization of safety/security initiatives, audit findings and global safety concepts.
The role will function as a leader of leaders with a global head of security and regional EHS managers representing all site EHS specialists reporting into it.
The Director, Global Head of RC will also have a team of Product Safety experts who are accountable for managing the Product and Chemical Regulation strategies on behalf of the division. This includes the regulatory bodies for BASIS (800+ substances, +3800 Compositions) and SPASS (+32,000 products). The Head of RC is accountable for regulatory compliance with regards to the Product and Chemical Regulation requirements for each of CC's 20+ legal entities and 60+ manufacturing sites.
Additionally, the Director, Global Head of RC is responsible for maintaining clarity on upcoming regulatory challenges and developing strategies to ensure that CC sites and products remain compliant. Potential topics include Platinosis. Base Metal Dust Containment, Expansion of REACH like regulations world-wide, Nanomaterials. etc. The Head of RC represents CC/BASF in more than 20 International Consortia, and industry groups.

Govern use of existing KPIs including jointly setting, enforcing and implementing targets with GBU leadership
Prioritize CC global safety topics including Process Safety Concepts, Safety Study reviews and RCMS engagement strategy to support resources allocation
Partner with industry groups (REACH consortia, industry interest groups) to understand and influence RC regulation
Coach & Develop a high performing RC team and CC's SHE community and security community
Representative for CC and BASF on all catalyst relevant consortia and advocacy panels.
Represent CC within BASF for all Responsible Care, Product Regulatory, Product Stewardship and EHS Global Committees
