Design, implement, administer, maintain, and oversee diverse safety programs at UNL, ranging from utility and maintenance type operations to general laboratory safety. As needed, conduct air monitoring for exposure assessments or evaluations of indoor air quality and evaluate other occupational hazards in accordance with generally recognized safety principles and practices. Develop written compliance management programs, campus guidance documents and resources, and audit guidelines. Maintain defensible and complete records. Provide day-to-day leadership of supporting staff. Advise faculty and staff of potential hazards and recommended mitigation strategies. Review construction designs for facility safety features and advise architects/engineers on design recommendations to enhance safety. Collaborate with other Senior staff to achieve and maintain departmental objectives and goals. Apply expertise to complex operations and/or regulatory requirements that may impact multiple EHSfunctional units (e.g., biosafety, radiation safety, environmental protection, etc.). Minimum Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in industrial hygiene, occupational safety or engineering, public health, or similar degree program plus three years of experience with design and implementation of occupational safety programs. In-depth knowledge of regulations pertinent to occupational safety. Must have leadership, organizational, and communication (oral and written) skills. Ability to plan, design, and implement compliance management plans and procedures. Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities. Ability to formulate and document individualized and complex reports regarding unique operations. Preferred Qualifications:Master’s degree in industrial hygiene, occupational safety or engineering, public health, or similar degree program. Professional experience at an institution of higher education, and in other EHS disciplines. Supervisory/leadership experience. General knowledge of laboratory safety and other EHS disciplines. Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Safety Professional, or other related professional certification.
