We are looking for a seasoned safe driving professional with experience in both program and project management to join the Safety, Health and Wellness Division as a Safe Driving Coordinator. This position will research, plan, develop, implement, audit and evaluate a Driver Safety Program and activities for the Utility This position will report to the Safety, Health and Wellness Manager – Technical Programs.
Develop and implement a Comprehensive Safe Driving Program for Seattle City Light;
Act as the Department Commercial Driver License ("CDL") subject matter expert by maintaining department CDL compliance, ensuring the department satisfies its CDL needs, and by acting as the liaison between the department and City for all CDL related matters;
Regularly monitor the programs database for overall safety score and documents follow-up actions;
Conduct needs analysis and provide content for the development and delivery of accountability measures by means of follow-up refresher training, based on monitoring employee driving safety performance statistical trends;
Review motor vehicle collision reports and injury accident reviews with drivers and other associated parties and makes recommendations on improvement;
Track reported accidents by pertinent classifications to identify trends that once established can be addressed by training;
Design and use various reports to share accident data with supervisors as needed but at least monthly
Point of contact regarding audits, inspections, and interventions
Recommend, develops and implements Safe Driving training procedures and presentations;
Interpret and communicate current and upcoming regulations to internal customers, fleet management, and garages and coordinates training on Federal and State (WSDOT, DMV, and DOSH) regulations as required with end users;
Support and administer safety policies, standards, programs, procedures, and strategies;
Participate in safety and health meetings, conferences, seminars and training programs;
Research new safety equipment ideas and best practices for safe driving;
Assume responsibility for maintaining effective communication and coordination with management and area personnel;
Ensure compliance and act as the Company liaison to regulators;
Ensure an efficient and safe work environment by providing periodic site and vehicle inspections and evaluations;
Provide technical direction and education to ensure compliance;
Maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, other departments and subject matter experts to obtain information and/or correct problems;
Travel and on call work expected; and,
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health, Safety, Toxicology, Industrial Hygiene, Biology, Engineering or a related field (or a combination of education, training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).
Experience: Requires three years of experience in a safety or health related field (or a combination of education, training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).
Certification/License: Driver's License or equivalent mobility.
Three (3) years of experience in Program Management, project management, administration, planning, coordination, development implementation and evaluation;
Three (3) years of experience in motor vehicle accident and safety investigations and in developing, conducting, and coordinating driver improvement and/or driver education programs.
Experience with the development and administration of driver training programs for a large fleet;
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills;
Good persuasion and negotiation skills;
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, with individuals at all levels of the organization;
Demonstrated experience working independently and collaboratively in a diverse environment;
Ability to meet strict deadlines without compromising accuracy, excellent product quality and attention to detail;
Experience with MS Project, Excel, Outlook, and Word and other software;
Experience working with Collective Bargaining Unions;
Solid understanding of federal and state statutes and regulations and processes regarding Commercial Driver License and CDL Permits; and,
Experience working in the public sector.
