The College of Continuing Studies at the University of Alabama is seeking applications from visionary leaders in the environmental, safety or health professions to serve as Executive Director of Environmental and Industrial Programs. The Executive Director oversees a staff of approximately 30 and leads a comprehensive program providing training, career enhancement, research, and technical assistance related to environmental and occupational safety and health throughout the state and region. The Executive Director's role encompasses engineering, applied science, industrial technology, energy, occupational safety and health, environmental control, and other technical areas related to regulatory compliance, loss control, productivity, economic growth and development, and technology transfer. The Executive Director is responsible for three subunits: Occupational Safety and Health Consultation, Environmental Programs, and Training and Conference Activities.
Applicants must hold a minimum of a master’s degree in a field related to occupational safety, health, environment, or equivalent and certification in an environmental safety and health discipline by a professional organization holding accreditation by the Council of Engineering and Scientific Specialty Boards and/or the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (examples of acceptable credentials include a professional engineers license in environmental engineering, Certified Industrial Hygienist [CIH], or Certified Safety Professional [CSP]). Applicants must have at least six years of experience in growing and managing environmental safety and health programs, budget/financial management experience, and exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
The successful candidate will also demonstrate active leadership in environmental safety and health professional organizations; experience in acquiring and conducting funded projects; experience in designing, developing, and conducting technical training in a variety of delivery formats; and business development experience.
