The Individual in this position will provide direct support, assistance and technical expertise toward the administration of Auburn University's commercial property and casualty insurance programs, self-insured programs, claims management, loss control and loss prevention programs. Duties include coordinating various University property and casualty insured and self-insured programs to include: development and administration of insurance marketing plans; technical review of insurance documents; collecting and analyzing financial information; recommending and processing insurance cost allocations; claim management and analysis; recording and analyzing data in the Risk Management Information System; negotiating policy terms, conditions and pricing with insurance brokers; and oversight of third party claim administrators. Additional duties will include: identification and analysis of risk exposures; preparing and maintaining loss prevention and loss control programs; developing and presenting training programs; communication with University employees and outside constituents to provide information, advice and guidance on risk management and insurance related issues and concerns; assisting with contract review; and working with insurance brokers, claimants, attorneys and others.
Entry into the applicant pool requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Business, Risk Management, Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Insurance, or a related field. Property and casualty insurance specific knowledge plus a demonstrated knowledge or ability to learn, interpret and apply the following: technical and theoretical understanding of insurance principles and capability of exercising independent judgment in the interpretation and application of complex insurance principles; ability to read, interpret and analyze all forms of insurance policies.
Knowledge and ability to apply industry standard best practices for claim administration are all essential. This person must also have knowledge of current state and federal codes, regulations and laws governing area of responsibility such as state workers' compensation statutes and automobile liability financial responsibility regulations. They must exhibit strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with others. Proficiency with computer software applications such as Word, Excel, and Power Point and demonstrated ability to learn new software applications is essential.
