Industrial Hygienists help minimize risk associated with exposure to workplace health hazards. The Industrial Hygiene Specialist will provide paraprofessional support to the University Research and Academic Safety team, primarily through the oversight and management of chemical and laboratory safety support systems. The Industrial Hygiene Specialist will support the team's Safety Specialists by applying knowledge of the hierarchy of controls, sampling techniques, properties of hazardous materials, and personal protective equipment to facilitate conformance with regulatory safety requirements and best practices. Industrial Hygiene Specialist will advise Principal Investigators and laboratory personnel on hazard control measures. Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work in a diverse environment are essential. The Industrial Hygiene Specialist must be able to develop and maintain strong collaborative and professional relationships with researchers and other University support personnel while actively promoting a culture of safety.
Bachelor’s in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety & Health, Chemistry, Physics, Biology or other relevant field; 3+ years of relevant research support or safety experience
Preferred Education and Experience:
2 years or more experience working as a chemist or chemical related field or Chemical Safety
Technical training in Industrial Hygiene or Certified Safety Professional a plus
Experience working with hazardous chemicals, radioactive materials and biological hazard and using proper protective equipment a plus
