Reporting to the Associate Director (AD), Occupational Health and Safety, the Senior Specialist is responsible for the health and safety programs. This position is primarily based on the Medical Campus while remaining flexible in assignments across all areas and departments served by EHS. This position is responsible for implementing safety management plans for the Environment of Care as required by the Joint Commission (Hospital Accreditation) under the direction of the AD and director. Manages and implements construction, fire, and worker safety programs including but not limited to hazardous energy control, confined space entry, hazard communication, machine shop safety, blood borne pathogens and power industrial trucks. Serves as the liaison to the School of Dental Medicine.
B.A./B.S. in safety or related degree, strong communication skills, proficient in Microsoft Office and three to five years of safety, industrial hygiene, or related experience and training, preferably in an academic or healthcare setting. Strong knowledge of federal, state and local safety regulations. Candidate will have or shall obtain 40-Hour OSHA hazardous waste operations and emergency response training certification. Extensive knowledge of federal, state and local fire safety regulations. As part of the emergency response program, candidate will be part of a rotating on-call schedule requiring response outside of normal business hours and must participate in a medical surveillance and annual physical program through Occupational Health . This position requires completion of a pre-placement physical questionnaire and on-site physical and medical surveillance upon hire.
