The Fire Inspector I, under supervision, completes training to accurately learn and comprehend fire and life safety construction inspection procedures and assists EHS in ensuring a safe environment for faculty, staff, and students by identifying unsafe conditions. Conduct fire extinguisher inspections.
Required Education and Education:
High school degree or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Two years of experience in an EHS field such as industrial hygiene, fire safety, environmental science, occupational safety or occupational health.
Required Licenses and Certifications:
Must have a State of Texas class âœCâ vehicle operatorâ™s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Failure to obtain license may result in termination.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Oral and written communication skills.
Basic computer/Microsoft Office Skills.
Other Requirements or Other Factors
May require heavy lifting or moving.
Will require walking, climbing stairs, working in a construction environments; working in hot, cold, dusty conditions, etc.
Will be required to wear appropriate PPE for the task.
Fire extinguisher inspection/maintenance experience.
Completes training and utilizes EHS requirements and procedures for completing fire and life safety construction inspections.
Assists other in acceptance testing of various fire and life safety systems.
Conducts minor plan reviews.
These duties will require operating a University vehicle or other motor vehicle.
Creates reports associated with acceptance testing of fire and life safety systems and inspection of facilities.
Uploads documents into construction management software.
Conducts monthly and annual inspections of portable fire extinguishers.
Utilizes iPod to conduct inspections.
Responds to campus emergencies and assists emergency responders as needed.Performs other duties as assigned.
