This Environmental Health & Safety Specialist I position is responsible for providing specialized knowledge in the operation and support of the Industrial Hygiene program. Prepares reports for distribution outside of department. Able to act independently ensuring work complies with program procedures.
Required Education and Experience:
Associate s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Two years of related experience in a safety and health field.
Required Licenses, Certifications and Registrations:
Valid State of Texas driver license or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire. Failure to obtain a valid TDL may result in termination.
Ability to demonstrate application of relevant codes and standards within 6 months of employment through certification, testing, field work, or other means determined by functional area
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Working knowledge of environmental, safety, and health rules, regulations, and standards.
Experience with MS Office.
Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Requires ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others as well as work independently.
Ability to tolerate moderate exposure to extreme temperature, dust, dirt, fumes, smoke, loud noises and chemical substances.
Requires ability to wear personal protective equipment including respirator, protective clothing.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Degree in an EHS-related discipline such as industrial hygiene, fire safety, environmental science, occupational safety or occupational health.
Bachelor s degree preferred. 2 years of work experience in an EHS field such as: industrial hygiene, fire safety, environmental science, occupational safety or occupational health.
Preferred Licenses, Certifications and Registrations:
Performs asbestos surveys on campus, including collection and mailing of samples.
May need to operate a university vehicle to complete duties.
Drafts survey reports, write management plans, and maintain records and associated files for documentation.
Supports the AED Program, to include AED maintenance, training of users, and record maintenance.
Conducts respirator fit tests, trains affected employees, and consults with manager for assignment of proper respiratory protection.
Maintains all records associated with fit testing.
Schedules annual fit tests and retraining.
Performs industrial hygiene sampling according to protocols, including indoor air quality surveys, mold surveys, and personal exposure monitoring.
Maintains sampling records and associated files for documentation and draft sampling reports.
Assists in maintenance of laboratory and industrial hygiene inventory.
Calibrates and maintains calibration records of industrial hygiene equipment.
Responds with other EHS personnel to emergencies on campus and assists emergency responders as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
