Hexcel is currently seeking a Regulatory Affairs Specialist to support our U.S. sites. The position can be based in any of our U.S. locations.
The selected individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following obligations:
Recognize and anticipate global product regulatory trends, emerging issues and customer expectations to ensure effective management of the Hexcel portfolio, and for the timely management of regulatory requirements for Americas jurisdiction chemical notification and registration processes.
Serve as the technical lead for the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). Work with commercial and operational leadership to ensure regulatory changes and trends are strategically integrated and communicated.
Serve as the functional owner and steward for systems established to manage Banned, Restricted and Targeted substance lists for raw materials used in Hexcel products and distributed within the Americas. Work with Research and Technology (R&T), operational and commercial teams to ensure information is disseminated.
Working collaboratively with global Product Stewardship counterparts, commercial leadership, and operations to ensure chemical notification, registration, and import/export requirements are harmonized across Hexcel’s global business. In addition, ensure the transit of raw materials and products across jurisdiction and borders does not result in business disruption.
Design and deliver training programs to support new initiatives, ensure specialist product stewardship knowledge is shared with key Hexcel contacts, and create processes for delivery of recurrent training.
Proactively monitor legislation and product stewardship trends, and identify andcommunicate changes that could have short or long-term impact on Hexcel product range and business continuity throughout the Americas.
Communicate with EHS Agencies in the Americas to support local plant compliance programs.
Coach, guide and train junior staff within the Department, as well as EHS, procurement and supply chain personnel throughout the region.
Maintain the organization and systems necessary to facilitate the principle accountabilities of the job, including for the development of short and long term plans to support strategic initiatives and programs implemented in the Americas plants.
Serve as the technical expert and leader for Dodd-Franck Conflict Free Minerals legislation, establishing and maintaining a management system, responding to customer enquiries, and fulfilling information flow to the Hexcel Legal Department for annual reporting to the U.S. Security and Exchange Commission.
Facilitate and manage chemical, physical, toxicological and ecotoxicological studies for fulfilment of regulatory, NGO, and customer requirements and drivers.
Serve as a technical expert and leader for delivery of projects in line with Hexcel’s sustainability principles, such as recycling opportunities, returnable packaging, etc.
Serve as a functional expert and leader on Hexcel’s Corporate EHS audit team, conducting EHS systems audits throughout the Americas.
A relevant degree (Chemistry, Toxicology, Environmental Science, Health and Safety or equivalent), with 8+ years of work experience in a product regulatory affairs/stewardship role.
A post graduate degree or certification in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Studies or Toxicology is preferred.
Proficient expert of the Toxic Substances Control Act.
Good working knowledge of toxicology and ecotoxicology.
Qualifications to fulfil certification for Transport of Hazardous Goods Regulations for air, sea, and CFR49 (DOT).
Working knowledge of the REACH Regulation.
Excellent written and verbal communication, with a demonstrated ability to develop strong working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization.
Strong organization skills, have the ability to design and deploy detailed plans, be a confident communicator and an experienced trainer and coach.
Excellent IT skills and experience of establishing/ manipulation of databases and document management systems and sophisticated use of SharePoint.
Able to communicate and influence effectively including experience of presenting and justifying regulatory recommendations to stakeholders.
Able to recognize regulatory changes and trends impacting Hexcel’s market sectors, and foresee impacts of change driven by product stewardship activities on other parts of Hexcel’s business.
Functions well independently and is self-motivated. Works with minimum guidance and direction to accomplish overall team, and company goals.
Able to work in a high energy, rewarding business with regulatory and stakeholder deadlines, while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
Comprehensive knowledge of the Company’s product range and an awareness of our customers’ working practices and product handling techniques.
