The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist I, under general supervision, provides specialized knowledge in the operation and support of assigned area within an environmental health and safety program. Develops educational materials, learning curriculum, and written communications. Evaluates available feedback mechanism responses to measure effectiveness of current training programs and provides technical support for EHS programs' education and development needs. Facilitates communications and marketing in line with University and EHS branding.
Required Education and Experience:
Associates degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Two years of work experience in safety and health field.
Required Licenses and Certifications:
Must have a State of Texas class âœCâ vehicle operatorâ™s license or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment.
Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of Texas A&M EHS programs.
Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to take direction from supervisor.
Ability to work independently when required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Ability to develop training materials and produce high quality written communication.
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Bachelorâ™s degree in English, Communication, Instructional Technology, or other related field.
Bachelorâ™s degree and two years of work experience in an EHS field such as industrial hygiene, fire safety, environmental science, occupational safety, or occupational health or two years of experience in instructional technology, English, communication, training, or other applicable learning and development field. Two years of related experience in a safety and health or instructional design/training/communication field. Experience with TrainTraq. Experience designing and developing training programs and presentations.
Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proficiency with Articulate 360 and Adobe presentation software, Adobe Photoshop, and photography/videography. Ability to teach, train, and present.
Develops new educational materials, updates existing materials, and delivers in person training. Takes photographs/videos and creates graphics to support training material development and design. Operates a vehicle to travel to on-campus locations for photo/video assignments. Works with various software programs to develop and enhance online and in-person trainings.
Compiles and reports training program statistics and evaluates available feedback mechanism responses. Maintains program records, submits/verifies training completions, and maintains a catalog of training resources. Creates educational materials as requested and edits written and online communications. Interacts with diverse group of EHS employees to assess learning and development needs, responds to requests for assistance, and provides guidance when appropriate. Maintains and updates courses in TrainTraq.
Facilitates program communications and marketing, including regular social media posts via EHS accounts. Creates social media, newsletter, graphics, and webpage updates in line with University and EHS branding. Creates and maintains templates for departmental written communications.
Performs other duties as assigned.
