Performs duties in the area of industrial hygiene including conducting surveys and inspections. Responds to, investigates and provides written and verbal corrective measures to workplace hazards. Monitors and evaluates raw materials, by-products, toxic materials and physical agents. Monitors workplace for chemical and other hazards and exposures; provides assistance with laboratory exposure control. Conducts written safety program audits and assists with website updates. Conducts assessments and inspections in maintenance, wood and machine shops as well as research laboratories and assists university departments with the development of safety processes and procedures. Conducts risk assessments and job hazard analyses for job classifications in university departments. Provides project management support. Coordinates data collection. Provides support for workplace design and concept review and assists with developing design standards and safety programs for new and/or emerging technologies. Provides expertise and support for workplace design concepts for industrial ventilation. Provides technical consultation to university departments and assists all areas of Environmental Health and Safety with industrial hygiene processes and procedures. Provides training programs in the areas of industrial hygiene, occupational safety and related areas. Supports cross collaboration and partners effectively with other campus groups. Maintains and coordinates policies and procedures for occupational safety and emergency response. Maintains and calibrates industrial hygiene and emergency response equipment. Prepares reports and newsletters. Works 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Environmental Health and Safety; participates as a member of the EHS emergency response team; subject to 24 hour call in response to emergency situations; and may be required to work during special events during off hours. Master's degree with technical background in chemistry, biology and/or physics or an equivalent combination of education and experience; 3-5 years of experience in the field of industrial hygiene or occupational, health and safety in a university environment, or equivalent; knowledge of industrial hygiene and employee safety and health practices; strong written and verbal communication skills including ability to provide training programs and speak to large audiences; ability to adapt to complex situations and cultures; problem solving skills.
American Board of Industrial Hygiene certification as an Industrial Hygienist; Certified or Associate Safety Professional
