Salary Range: $44,000 - Commensurate with Experience

Position Status: Regular full-time
The Safety Specialist will act as a safety support liaison to campus research labs and associated faculty and lab personnel. The Safety Specialist conducts safety performance reviews and lab hazard assessments for University research laboratories and applicable research support facilities. The Safety Specialist prepares and provides timely safety review reports and assists in and monitors corrective actions, as necessary. The Safety Specialist will advise Principal Investigators and laboratory personnel on safety review findings, and provide appropriate recommendations based on regulatory compliance and best practices. Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work in a diverse environment are essential. The Safety Specialist must be able to develop and maintain strong collaborative and professional relationships with researchers and other University support personnel while actively promoting a culture of safety.
Bachelor’s in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety & Health, Chemistry, Physics, Biology or other relevant field; 3+ years of relevant research support or safety experience
Preferred Education and Experience:
Education: MS in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety & Health, Chemistry, Physics, Biology or other relevant field
Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Safety & Health experience
Knowledge of radiation safety and ability to meet requirements to act as radiation safety officer
Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA, and other safety related regulations and industry practices
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or professional safety engineer (PE)
