The Assistant Vice President for University Health and Safety (UHS) is responsible for the development, implementation, administration, facilitation, and monitoring of health, safety, and preparedness policies and programs for the University of Minnesota system. The AVP leads a staff of 85 with a budget of approximately $10 million in the following units: Biosafety and Occupational Health and Safety, Building Codes, Emergency Management, Environmental Health and Safety, and Radiation Safety as well as other safety related functions. This position reports to the Vice President for University Services and works collaboratively with faculty, academic administrators, and staff to support academic excellence while developing and sustaining a culture of safety in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local statutes, regulations, and ordinances.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • A bachelor’s degree is required. A graduate degree is preferred. • A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in health and/or safety within a large, complex institution, business and/or government entity, with a minimum of six years in a leadership role. • Demonstrated successful leadership and direction of an enterprise with a diverse portfolio of related services, with an emphasis placed on previous track record in management and leadership positions. • Health and/or safety experience in or with a public sector organization or in a research university setting is strongly preferred. • Must be able to pass an FBI background check
