Safety Management Group is seeking an Environmental Permit Specialist in Oklahoma.

The Environmental Permit Specialist puts the environment at the forefront of their job, makes the client’s needs a priority, works well in a team setting, is a self-starter, is continuously improvement-minded, and is flexible when it comes to change. The associate in this role will be primarily in an office/home environment with occasional construction site visits and in-office meetings.

Overview of Job Responsibilities:

  • Tracking of project environmental tasks, including stream and wetland delineation, cultural resource studies, threatened and endangered species, and stormwater planning, compliance, and management
  • Developing & executing project-specific environmental water & ecological permitting strategies
  • Managing project timelines, preparing estimates for environmental scopes of work and tracking project closure steps for the team
  • Preparing and reviewing submittals and permit documents,
  • Collecting and reviewing GIS, map creation, and permit inspection data within electronic file systems
  • Interfacing with project teams, field staff, regulatory agencies, and environmental consultants
  • Site visits for permitting scopes and construction review
  • Documenting and reporting reviews, revisions, and submittals

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or related field
  • 5+ years of related Oklahoma and/or Texas environmental permitting experience
  • Knowledge of Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan development and NPDES construction stormwater discharge permitting
  • Knowledge of Erosion and Sediment Control practices
  • Knowledge of Corps of Engineers Section 10/404 permits (Nationwide Permits) and Section 401 water quality certifications
  • Knowledge of wetland identification and basic stream assessment and classification
  • Knowledge of threatened and endangered species
  • Knowledge of cultural and historical resource permitting
  • Strong computer skills – Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Must work well independently
  • Possess good time management skills
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • May involve up to 10% travel

Experience preferred in the following area:

  • Linear construction projects
  • Experience working with contractors

Physical Demands of the job may include:

  • Wearing personal protective gear correctly when in the field
  • Ascending/Descending stairs and ladders
  • Remaining in a stationary position for a prolonged period of time
  • Working in extreme weather
  • Being exposed to loud noises
  • Wearing personal protective gear correctly
